First Annual School Counselors Summit, 2021

Background

A call for action to address School and Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Nepal. A general consensus amongst the new wave of mental health professionals in Nepal is that intervention at an earlier level; the school level, is the most effective way to promote mental health well-being and awareness of a population. Although scattered and slowly growing, the subject matter of mental health has started to take center-stage in Health and Occupational sectors. However, the Educational sector is a relatively untapped area in the context of Nepal. School and Child and Adolescent Mental Health might be understood as catering to a population of children and teenagers, however, it is inclusive of other groups as well. Here, stakeholders such as parents, educators, teachers, and school administration are equally impacted. In modern times, Mental Health stands to, not only be curative, but preventive as well. It focuses on human growth and development. Hence, School and Child and Adolescent Mental Health promotes such human growth for students while impacting stakeholders who exist within a community. It is a snowball effect that starts with one school while the community is impacted as well. Sambhavya Foundation is one such organization that works with Schools and such stakeholders. It provides mental health awareness and services to each group mentioned above. Since 2018, the organization has reached 16 schools and more than 4500 students. The number of students represent their families as well. However, one organization alone cannot produce all the solutions for the prospect of School and Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Nepal. Hence, we call you for action, the youths and enthusiasts who want to make a change and leave a mark in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

Sambhavya Foundation is excited to announce the First Annual School Counselors Summit, 2021 for school counselors to come together and work for the prospect of School and Child & Adolescent Mental Health.
